The winter weather adversely affects the skin, especially pierced parts. Colder weather is associated with dry skin.

2. Instead of using hot water and soap to bathe frequently, you can bath with lukewarm water. Use non-detergent cleaners and a moisturizer that is water-in-oil.

3. Use cream moisturizers. They are suitable for people with dry and sensitive skin.

4. Avoid really cold weather. extreme cold temperatures are not good. They can cause frostbite and other skin disorders. Be properly covered when the weather is really cold.

5. Extreme heat is not good either. Sitting in front of the electric heater to keep warm is not a good idea at all. Any temperature above 78 degrees will deplete moisture from the air and keeps adding to winter’s cold.

6. Do not wash your piercing directly with soap during winter. Soap dries out piercings all year-round but washing the piercing with soap especially at the peak of winter can be suicidal.

Clean the soapy water directly with sea salt solution and then enhance it with a moisturizing boost if it runs over your piercings in the shower.

What to Do if You Suspect You Have an Infection

Prolonged dryness and skin irritation of the affected area can lead to infection.

Fever, yellow pus, red streaks radiating from the piercing, hot skin, discharge of thick are all signs and symptoms of infection.

As you notice one or more of the symptoms, it is pertinent that you begin your full-scale aftercare regime with the sea salt solution. Begin the sea salt water soaks. Inform your Doctor and ask him if you need antibiotics. He, after examination, will also advise you whether or not you need to take jewelry off.
